I’m running for Dane County Board because ever since I was little, I’ve wanted to serve. I’ve decided to give back to those who’ve helped me, while reaching out to individuals who may need assistance. Working with young children and encouraging them to follow their dreams has reminded me to follow mine.

I feel community is extremely important. Getting to know your neighbors can be a key to feeling connected, especially in this busy world. Here is a bit about my background, so you can get to know me better.

I’ve lived in Dane County for over 20 years. Growing up in Blue Mounds taught me to protect our environment for future generations.

While in high school, I was active in student government, and worked at the Mt. Horeb Library, Cave of the Mounds, and a local gas station. I was also selected to attend Badger Girls State, where my interest in serving our state grew even more.

After graduating high school, I moved to Madison and have lived here ever since. I began working at a local daycare center, continued my schooling at Madison College, and joined the Dane County TimeBank. I met my finance, who encourages me daily to follow my dreams. After graduating from Madison College, I decided to continue my work in the early education field by taking credentials online through UW-Platteville. I am currently working to finish my bachelor’s degree. I have taken various leadership classes throughout my schooling, learning how to best serve and listen to individuals.

After the death of a close friend in 2015, I decided to work as a peer in the mental health field. I wanted to reach out to individuals who felt isolated and alone, growing together with them to find community connections.

Almost three years ago, my finance and I purchased our first home. We fell in love with Eastmorland, and decided that this was the best place in Madison for us. Realizing the power of community connection, I felt drawn to give back to my neighbors. This is the reason I would love to represent District 17 in Dane County. Please be active to let your voice be heard.

Vote May 7 and June 4, Amanda McKaig for Dane County Board Supervisor~ District 17
